The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake  Sumter Counties are planning a holiday craft sale this November 12th at the parking lot of the Extra Space Storage Facility, 520 County Road 466 in Lady Lake (next to First Baptist Church). The Saturday event will run from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

At about 6:30 PM on Sunday, August 28th, the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to Carney Island Park in response to a missing swimmer. Donald Masini, age 57  and Roxanne White, age 57, were boating on Lake Weir when they decided to swim in the water. 

Villages resident James Hennessey, age 60, died Thursday morning after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving his car. Hennessey was driving south on El Camino Real in his 2001 Toyota when witness' said he began driving erratically, left the roadway and plunged into a retention pond.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department declared the "Kicks for Guns" program a huge success. The program received over 350 guns and ran out of gift cards by 3:30 PM.

On Friday, August 19, 2011 the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the “Kicks for Guns” program sponsored by CRIMELINE & Real Radio 104.1. The “Kicks for Guns” program allows people with unwanted firearms to trade them in for Wal-Mart or Target gift cards.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is now offering up to $2,500 in reward for information leading to the location and recovery of the weapon used in the quadruple homicide committed August 5, 2011 at 5366 NW 5th Street, Ocala.

Operation “Summer Sweep” was a three month county-wide undercover operation conducted by the Sheriff’s Special Investigation Squad in cooperation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Marion County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested James Edward Bannister, the main suspect in the quadruple homicide and fire at 5366 NW 5th Street, Ocala that occurred last Friday morning August 5th.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Friday, August 5, Marion County Sheriff's deputies responded to the home at 5366 NW 5th Street, Ocala in reference to a house fire involving multiple fatalities.

Late Monday night, August 1st at about 12:17 AM, Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to 38449 Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake after receiving a report of an armed home invasion that had just occurred.

On Wednesday, July 20, Brokers Title of Leesburg received a package from Arizona through Fed Ex that was addressed to a client of the business who resides in Washington, D.C. Upon making contact with the client, he stated he was not expecting a delivery at the business. The employee at the title company felt this was suspicious and the package was ultimately turned over to the Fruitland Park Police Department for investigation. 

 

On July 13, 2011 at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding a missing group of 14 boy scouts and their 2 troop leaders.

The nonfarm payroll employment numbers were essentially unchanged in June (+18,000), and the unemployment  rate increased to 9.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment  in most major private-sector industries changed little over the month. Government employment  continued to trend down. 

Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Michael Charles Fluharty of Lake Butler and charged him with one count of exploitation of an elderly person. Fluharty is 58 years-old. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim is 94 years old and has lost $450,000 due to Fluharty’s actions.

On June 28,2011 Lake County Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputies responded to the address of 19811 Rose Road in Altoona in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant.

Scores of supporters, area residents, local and county officials attended the grand opening  and dedication ceremony of the new Lady Lake Public Library. Marilynn Nesbitt, the Library Director, was the master of ceremonies of the dedication.

Marion County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes and Evidence Units responded to a wooded area off of SW 105th Avenue in the Florida Highlands on Thursday, March 10, to dig for a body.
